Happy 6 months!
Notice the progression in these next pictures. Getting a picture with him sitting still AND smiling is becoming more and more difficult! :)
Sees the sign...
Wants the sign...
But gets distracted by mommy instead!
I really cannot believe that I have been a mommy for half of a year. These first 6 months have gone by so fast- it seems like just yesterday that you arrived into this world!
Firsts: rolling over from your back to your belly VERY easily- we cannot keep you on your back anymore (but somehow, you seem to have forgotten to roll the other way and get stuck on your belly, which makes you very mad!), going to the vet's office for Murphy's check-up, becoming very ticklish- especially under your chin and your ribs, we discovered that 1st food carrots do NOT agree with your belly, you have started to put your lips together and attempt to blow bubbles- but usually that just means whatever is in your mouth flies EVERYWHERE (ex.- spit, milk, sweet potatoes...the list goes on), first time for mommy and daddy to claim a dependent on their taxes, haha!
News Headlines: gas is currently $3.45 a gallon- the highest in your lifetime, massive earthquake strikes Japan- as of a few days ago, over 11,000 died and 16,000 still missing
Milestones: Well, no teeth yet, and the doctor didn't see any signs of any new ones coming. We know that it is going to happen soon though, but mommy didn't get her 1st tooth until 9 months, and daddy got his at 7 months. The back to belly roll over is a big milestone this month. Also, you are sitting up pretty well, but not independently. You still tip over to the side or forward. Dr. J says that it's technically a 6-month milestone, but most babies aren't sitting independently until closer to 7 months.
Measurements: We went for your 6 month check-up on March 31st. Here are your stats: you weigh 17 pounds (30%) and are exactly 28 inches long (88%). The doctor says you are long and lean- same as last time, and that everything looks great! Mommy had a lot of questions about solid foods, which you are LOVING. You also wear size 2 diapers, but we think it's about time to try a 3. You wear mostly 6 month clothes, some still say 3-6 months. There are a few things a little bigger that will fit you, it just depends on the brand :)
Other info.:
-
It was taking you forever to finish a bottle- so we switched to a faster flowing nipple and that seemed to do the trick
- Speaking of bottles, you much rather prefer solid food- you almost never turn it down, and there are many times that you will reject a bottle
- You are grabbing for anything and everything within reach- hair being the most painful thing! :)
- Anytime you see a cup, coffee mug, glass, etc. you MUST have it in your hands...you pull it to your mouth every time- shhhh...we've let you taste a few things (cranberry juice, sprite, OJ)
- Dr. J says you should be drinking around 32 oz. of formula or breastmilk every day- well, that is not happening. We're lucky if we get to 24 oz. That worries mommy a little more than it should, I think. We try, but you just won't take it...but you appear to be a very healthy and growing boy :)
- And speaking of breastmilk, well, I think mommy is d-o-n-e. It takes me so long to get enough for one bottle, that it almost seems not worth it. You still get one bottle a day, but sometimes we have to skip a day. I keep telling myself that it's better than none at all, but I have to stop at some point.
